Tour Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Airport Arrival — Transfer to Negombo
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport where you will be warmly received by your dedicated chauffeur guide. Transfer to your coastal hotel in Negombo to relax and refresh after your international flight. Spend the evening resting or strolling along Negombo's golden sandy beach and tranquil coastal lagoons. Dinner and overnight stay in Negombo.
Day 2Chilaw (Munneshwaram & Manavari Temples) to Sigiriya
After breakfast, journey north to Chilaw to visit the sacred Munneshwaram and Manavari Temples. Munneshwaram is an ancient sanctuary dedicated to Lord Shiva that predates the Ramayana. Legend says Lord Rama, flying back to Ayodhya in Ravana's Vimana, felt pursued by the Brahmaasthi Dosham for having slain a Brahmin king. When his Vimana vibrated here, he knew the curse paused, and Lord Shiva advised him to install four Shiva Lingams to cleanse the dosham. Lord Rama consecrated the first at Manavari on the banks of Deduru Oya, called Ramalinga Shivan to this day. Continue across the countryside to Sigiriya for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3Trincomalee — Koneswaram Temple & Shankari Devi Shakthi Peetham
Take a scenic morning drive to the historic port city of Trincomalee on the east coast. Climb atop the soaring cliff of Swami Rock to visit Thirukonamamalai Koneswaram Kovil, the revered 'Temple of the Thousand Pillars' venerated by Saivite pilgrims for millennia. Within this cliffside sanctuary stands the Shankari Devi Temple, celebrated as one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas extolled in Adi Shankara's ancient shloka 'Lankaayaam Shaankari Devi'. Marvel at the dizzying ocean drop at Lovers' Leap and the deep blue bay before returning to Sigiriya for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4Dambulla, Matale Spice Garden & Kandy Temple of the Tooth
Depart Sigiriya heading south towards Kandy. Pass Dambulla and stop in Matale at an aromatic herbal and spice garden to learn about Sri Lanka's indigenous cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and medicinal herbs. Arrive in the royal hill capital of Kandy, situated beside its peaceful scenic lake. Visit the world-famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) and experience the serenity of the evening puja rituals, followed by a colorful performance of traditional Kandyan drumming and fire-walking. Dinner and overnight stay in Kandy.
Day 5Kandy to Ramboda (Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple) & Nuwara Eliya
Ascend into the misty Central Highlands along winding roads fringed by cascading waterfalls and manicured tea plantations. Tour a functioning tea factory to see how Ceylon tea is processed. In Ramboda, visit the hilltop Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple built by the Chinmaya Mission of Sri Lanka on the ridge where Hanuman began his search for Sita. Continue climbing to Nuwara Eliya ('Little England'), admiring its colonial architecture, golf course, and the picturesque Gregory Lake. Dinner and overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 6Sita Amman Kovil, Hakgala (Ashok Vatika) & Divurumpola
Visit the prominent Sita Amman Temple in Seetha Eliya, adorned with vivid sculptures depicting the tale of Rama and Sita. Beside the temple flows a clear mountain stream where Sita bathed, with depressions in the rock bed believed to be footprints of the mighty Hanuman. Next, explore Hakgala Botanical Gardens, celebrated as King Ravana's pleasure garden Ashok Vatika, where Sita was sheltered and where Hanuman presented Rama's signet ring. Later, visit Divurumpola Temple, the sanctified ground where Sita proved her chastity through the Agni Pariksha, and where sacred oaths are still honored today. Dinner and overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 7Nuwara Eliya via Ella (Ravana Falls) to Kataragama Temple
Descend through the magnificent southern hill country to Ella. Stop to view the dramatic 1,080-foot Ravana Ella Falls and the historic Ravana Ella Cave where the legendary King of Lanka hid Princess Sita. Continue down to the sacred southern pilgrimage oasis of Kataragama. In the evening, join devotees for the evocative pooja ceremony at the Kataragama Temple dedicated to Lord Karthikeya Subramaniam, who stood on the battlefield to shield Lord Rama from Ravana's formidable Brahmasthra. Dinner and overnight stay in Kataragama.
Day 8Kataragama via Ussangoda to Colombo
Following breakfast, travel along Sri Lanka's southern coastline. En route, explore Ussangoda, an extraordinary coastal plateau whose red, barren soil bears testimony to the legend that Hanuman's burning tail torched King Ravana's royal airfield here. Continue on the southern expressway to Colombo, the bustling commercial capital. Enjoy an evening sightseeing drive past the Old Parliament, colonial buildings, and the Galle Face ocean promenade. Dinner and overnight stay in Colombo.
Day 9Sri Anjaneyar Temple & Kelaniya Temple (Coronation of Vibeeshana) to Negombo
Begin your morning with a visit to the Sri Anjaneyar Temple in Kalubowila — the first Anjaneyar temple in Sri Lanka and the only one in the world featuring a chariot and a statue of five-faced (Panchamukha) Hanuman. Next, visit the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara on the banks of the Kelani River, mentioned in the Valmiki Ramayana as the palace of Vibeeshana. Here, after Ravana's defeat, Prince Lakshmana officially crowned Vibeeshana as the righteous King of Lanka, as illustrated in exquisite temple murals. In the afternoon, transfer to Negombo for a farewell dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10Negombo to Airport — Departure
