Tour Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Arrival in Negombo
Airport pickup and transfer to Negombo — the ideal first-night base, just 10 minutes from BIA. Settle in, stroll the beach promenade, and explore the lively fish market on the Dutch canal. A fresh seafood dinner by the lagoon is the perfect welcome to Sri Lanka.
Day 2Negombo to Anuradhapura
Drive north to Anuradhapura — Sri Lanka's first great ancient capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the vast 2,300-year-old sacred city: the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi Tree (the oldest documented living tree on earth), the colossal Ruwanwelisaya Dagoba, the Isurumuniya Temple with its ancient rock carvings, and the royal pleasure gardens. A bicycle is the best way to cover the spread-out ruins.
Day 3Anuradhapura to Habarana — Sigiriya
Transfer to Habarana and in the afternoon climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress — the extraordinary 5th-century palace citadel rising 200m above the jungle floor. The summit offers breathtaking 360° views over the surrounding forests, reservoirs, and villages. In the evening, a guided jeep safari at Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park offers reliable elephant sightings.
Day 4Habarana to Kandy
Drive to Kandy through the spice-growing Matale District, visiting a spice and herbal garden to smell, taste, and learn about Ceylon cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, and turmeric. Arrive in Kandy and visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. In the evening, an electrifying Kandyan cultural show — fire-walking, plate-spinning, and the thunderous beating of drums.
Day 5Kandy Exploration
A full day in Sri Lanka's cultural capital. Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya — 147 acres of orchid houses, bamboo groves, and spectacular tropical trees. Walk the Kandy Lake promenade and visit the Udawattakele forest reserve for endemic birds and monkeys. In the evening, explore the vibrant Kandy market and find a local restaurant for a bowl of Kandy-style rice and curry.
Day 6Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Ascend through green tea-covered hillsides into Nuwara Eliya — the highest town in Sri Lanka at 1,900m. Visit a working tea plantation and factory for a guided tour and tasting. Explore the charming colonial town: the old post office, Victoria Park, and Gregory Lake. The cool highland evenings call for a warm dinner and a pot of freshly brewed Ceylon tea.
Day 7Nuwara Eliya to Yala
Drive south from the highlands to the dry-zone wilderness of Yala. En route, stop at the Ravana Falls — one of Sri Lanka's most dramatic and Ramayana-linked waterfalls. Arrive at your Yala lodge in the afternoon and head out for a late-afternoon jeep safari to begin the search for Sri Lanka's iconic leopard.
Day 8Yala to Beruwala
An optional early morning game drive in Yala before heading west along the south coast to Beruwala — one of Sri Lanka's premier beach resorts on the western coast. Arrive by early afternoon and check in to your beachside hotel. The afternoon is entirely free — swimming, water sports, or simply watching the fishing boats from the shore.
Day 9Beruwala Beach Day
A full day of sun, sand, and sea at Beruwala. This is one of Sri Lanka's classic resort beaches — calm, palm-fringed, and ideal for swimming and water sports. Options include snorkeling trips to the offshore reef, a mangrove river safari up the Bentota Lagoon, or a guided walk to the historic Kechimalai Mosque — one of the oldest Islamic places of worship in Sri Lanka.
Day 10Beruwala to Colombo
Final beach morning before transferring to Colombo along the expressway. Spend the afternoon exploring Colombo: the National Museum, Gangaramaya Temple, the bustling Pettah bazaar, and the colonial Fort district. An evening dinner at one of Colombo's excellent restaurants — Sri Lankan, Chinese, or seafood at the waterfront.
Day 11Departure from Colombo
Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure flight — 10 extraordinary days that have taken you from the island's oldest civilisations to its finest beaches, through jungles and highland mist.
