Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Arrival in Negombo
Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to Negombo — a lively coastal town just 10 minutes away, making it the ideal first night. Check in to a welcoming guesthouse near the beach and spend the evening on the promenade, trying the fresh seafood at the local restaurants.
Day 2Negombo to Sigiriya via Ridi Viharaya
An early morning visit to the Negombo fishing village — watch the outrigger boats return from the night's catch and the day's trading begin at the dock. Journey to Sigiriya via a stop at Ridi Viharaya (Silver Temple) — an ancient cave temple with an extraordinary 18th-century interior of silver, lacquer, and rare Buddhas. Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple in the late afternoon. Check in to your Sigiriya homestay.
Day 3Sigiriya — Village Safari & National Park
A morning Hiriwadunna village experience — the finest village tour in Sri Lanka — beginning with a bullock cart ride through paddy fields and ending with a catamaran crossing of the ancient village tank. Enjoy a traditional home-cooked lunch prepared by village women. Afternoon jeep safari at Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park for elephant sightings.
Day 4Sigiriya Rock & Drive to Kandy
Morning ascent of Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress — the 5th-century palace citadel with its ancient frescoes and lion-paw gateway. Continue to Kandy with a stop at the Ayurvedic Herbal Gardens in Matale, where guides explain the medicinal properties of cinnamon, pepper, aloe vera, and dozens of other plants. Day 5Kandy to Heeloya Village
A day of genuine village immersion in the Heeloya village near Kandy — a rural community set in the hills above the Mahaweli River. Spend the day learning to cook local food, try traditional weaving, join a village walk, and eat a home-cooked rice and curry lunch with the host family. Return to your Kandy homestay by evening.
Day 6Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Journey to Nuwara Eliya, stopping at the natural bathing place of Ranamure Pihilla — a hidden waterfall-fed rock pool where local families swim on weekends. Arrive in Nuwara Eliya and check in to your guesthouse. Explore Gregory Park in the evening — the lake and surrounding parkland are lovely in the late afternoon light.
Day 7Nuwara Eliya to Ella — Tea & Train

Day 8Ella — Hikes & Cooking Class
Morning hike to Little Adam's Peak through tea gardens — a leisurely two-hour walk with panoramic valley views. Visit the Nine Arch Bridge and the Ella Rock viewpoint. In the afternoon, join a Sri Lankan cooking class at your homestay — learning to grind coconut, prepare dhal, make rice flour hoppers, and slow-cook a proper fish curry.
Day 9Ella to Tissamaharama — Ravana Falls & Yala
Stop at the spectacular Ravana Falls before driving to Tissamaharama — the gateway town for Yala National Park. In the afternoon, embark on a jeep safari into Yala — Sri Lanka's most famous wildlife reserve, home to the world's highest density of leopards alongside elephants, sloth bears, and crocodiles.
Day 10Whale Watching in Mirissa
Transfer west to Mirissa on the south coast. An early morning whale watching trip to the deep waters of the continental shelf — one of the world's finest locations to observe blue whales. Return by mid-morning and spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beautiful crescent beach.
Day 11Mirissa Beach Day
A full day on the south coast. Choose from water sports — surfing, snorkeling, or stand-up paddleboard — at Mirissa and the nearby Secret Beach. Visit the Coconut Tree Hill headland for views over the bay. Explore the local night market for fresh seafood in the evening.
Day 12Mirissa to Bandaranaike International Airport
