Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Arrival in Kandy
Airport pickup and transfer to Kandy. Arrive in the late afternoon for the golden hour — walk the Kandy Lake promenade as the light turns warm over the water and the Temple of the Tooth Relic glows. The evening Puja ceremony at the temple is a spectacular photographic opportunity: devotional processions, oil lamp light, and incense smoke in beautiful atmospheric conditions.
Day 2Kandy to Nuwara Eliya — Tea Estates & Waterfalls
Rise at dawn for the best light on Kandy Lake before the crowds arrive. Drive upward through working tea estates on the road to Nuwara Eliya, stopping frequently for tea pluckers at work in the golden morning mist, cascading mountain streams, and the play of cloud shadow over ridgelines of tea. Stop at Ramboda Falls — an 109m cascade above the road — before arriving in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 3Nuwara Eliya — Little England Light
A full day in Nuwara Eliya dedicated to capturing the highland atmosphere: early morning mist rising from Gregory Lake, the colonial post office, Victoria Park's manicured gardens, and the surrounding Hakgala landscape. In the afternoon, explore a tea factory and capture the extraordinary richness of the production process — withering rooms, rolling machines, and the amber glow of fermenting leaves.
Day 4Scenic Train to Ella — Nine Arch Bridge & Ravana Falls
Board the highland train from Nanu Oya to Ella — the most photographed railway journey in Asia. Arrive in Ella and immediately hike to the Nine Arch Bridge for afternoon photography — the jungle-clad viaduct is at its best in the late afternoon when the light catches the stone arches and passing trains create a perfect composition. Visit Ravana Falls for dramatic waterfall photography in the golden light.
Day 5Ella Sunrise & Transfer to Colombo
A predawn start for the short climb to Little Adam's Peak — perfectly positioned to catch the sunrise over the Ella Gap, with the valley filling with gold and the distant mountains emerging from morning mist. This is Sri Lanka's finest accessible sunrise viewpoint. After breakfast, transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport via Colombo for departure.
