Tour Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Colombo Arrival & Street Food Tour
Airport transfer to your centrally located Colombo hotel. The afternoon is entirely free — use the time to wander Colombo 3's leafy streets, visit the Gangaramaya Temple, or sit with a king coconut at Galle Face Green. In the evening, join a guided street food tour through Pettah and Kotahena — the perfect solo introduction to Sri Lankan flavours, from hoppers to kottu roti.
Day 2Drive to Kandy
Your private driver takes you up into the hills to Kandy. In the afternoon, visit the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic at your own pace — no rush, no group. The evening is free to explore the Kandy lake walk, find your own dinner spot among the city's excellent independent restaurants, or watch the sunset from a hillside café.
Day 3Scenic Train to Ella
A free morning in Kandy before your private driver drops you at Kandy station for the famous highland train to Ella. Book a window seat and spend four hours watching the Sri Lanka highlands scroll past — misty peaks, tea estates, jungle rivers, and village stations. Arrive in Ella and check in to a guesthouse with a terrace view of the valley.
Day 4Free Day in Ella
An unstructured day entirely on your own terms — the best kind of solo travel. Options include: hiking to Ella Rock for sunrise views, walking the rail trail to the Nine Arch Bridge, cycling through tea estates, visiting the Little Adam's Peak trail, or simply eating your way through Ella's excellent independent café scene. The village is compact, walkable, and perfectly suited to solo exploration.
Day 5Drive to Galle
Your driver picks you up and heads south to the coast, passing through Wellawaya, Hambantota, and the scenic southern shore. Arrive in Galle by late afternoon. The Dutch fort neighbourhood is one of Sri Lanka's most rewarding solo destinations — a walkable, compact heritage city with excellent independent bookshops, galleries, restaurants, and a sunset rampart walk that rarely disappoints.
Day 6Galle Fort Day
A full, unhurried day inside the fort at your own pace. Meander the quiet streets between Dutch-colonial mansions and modern boutique guesthouses. Browse the art galleries and handcraft shops. Climb the lighthouse for harbour views. Find a table at one of the fort's celebrated restaurants for a long lunch. In the evening, join the local crowd on the ocean-side ramparts to watch the sunset — one of Sri Lanka's great free experiences.
Day 7Departure
A final morning at leisure in Galle — perhaps a last rampart walk or a farewell breakfast at your favourite fort café — before your driver transfers you northward along the expressway to Bandaranaike International Airport.
