Tour Highlights
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1Arrival in Anamaduwa
Upon arrival at BIA, your driver transfers you to the remote and rarely visited village of Anamaduwa in the North Western Province — a landscape of tanks, paddy fields, and dry-zone forest. Check in to your eco-lodge and enjoy a quiet evening listening to the jungle.
Day 2Anamaduwa — Birds, Kayaking & Cooking
A dawn bird-watching trail through Anamaduwa's waterside habitats — an excellent site for painted storks, open-billed storks, kingfishers, and endemic dry-zone species. Follow with a kayaking session on the nearby tank, then a cycling tour through the village. In the evening, join a community cooking class and prepare traditional Sri Lankan curries over an open wood fire.
Day 3Transfer to Habarana via Dambulla Cave Temple
Drive to Habarana, stopping at the extraordinary Dambulla Cave Temple — five cave shrines with painted ceilings and 153 devotional statues spanning 22 centuries. In the evening, join an expert naturalist for a trail through the surrounding forest in search of the elusive slender loris — a wide-eyed, slow-moving nocturnal primate found in the dry-zone forests here.
Day 4Sigiriya & Minneriya Safari
Morning climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress — one of the great architectural and artistic achievements of the ancient world. Afternoon jeep safari in Minneriya National Park to witness the famous Elephant Gathering — up to 400 wild elephants converging on the ancient reservoir as the dry season progresses, one of the great wildlife spectacles of Asia.
Day 5Transfer to Digana via Nalanda Gedige & Kandy
Drive to Digana via Nalanda Gedige — the geographic center of Sri Lanka and a remarkable fusion-architecture temple blending Buddhist and Hindu design. Stop to receive blessings at the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy before continuing to Digana, a tranquil village at the edge of the Knuckles range.
Day 6Knuckles Mountain Range Hike
A full-day guided trek through the Knuckles Mountain Range — a UNESCO World Heritage wilderness of cloud forest, mountain streams, and extraordinary biodiversity. The trail passes through tea estates, across ridgelines with views of five peaks, and through dense undergrowth alive with endemic birds, reptiles, and the purple-faced langur.
Day 7Village Life Experience in Digana
An immersive village day: visit a local primary school and engage with students and teachers, ride a local bus to experience everyday life, and tour a traditional weaving mill where handloom fabrics are produced using ancient techniques. Afternoon swim in a hidden jungle waterfall accessible only on foot. Evening traditional cooking lesson with a local family, sharing dinner together.
Day 8Transfer to Gal Oya
Drive east through the hill country and descend into the remote landscapes of the Uva Province. Transfer to Gal Oya — one of Sri Lanka's most pristine and least-visited national parks. An evening jungle drive and walk through the park with your naturalist reveals the diversity of the dry-zone ecosystem, and a sunset picnic beside the vast Senanayake Samudra reservoir is the perfect end to the day.
Day 9Gal Oya — Boat Safari & Vedda Village
A morning boat safari on the Senanayake Samudra — Sri Lanka's largest reservoir — with a real chance of witnessing wild elephants swimming between the lake's islands. In the afternoon, visit a Vedda (indigenous Sri Lankan) village and walk with the community chief through ancestral forests, hearing the oral history and folk traditions of one of Asia's oldest surviving indigenous peoples.
Day 10Transfer to Koslanda
Drive south-west through the Uva highlands to Koslanda — a remote highland village surrounded by tea estates, jungle, and waterfalls. Check in to your boutique retreat and enjoy a guided nature walk through the surrounding forest, birding, and visiting a small organic farm that supplies the kitchen.
Day 11Leisure in Koslanda — Waterfall Picnic
A slow and restorative day in the hills. Morning yoga or meditation in the garden. After breakfast, a gentle walk to a nearby waterfall for a picnic lunch and a swim in the natural pool. The afternoon is entirely free — read, birdwatch from the terrace, or simply appreciate the stillness of this rarely visited corner of Sri Lanka.
Day 12Transfer to Yala — Afternoon Safari
Drive south to Yala National Park — Sri Lanka's most famous wildlife reserve. Check in to your lodge and head out immediately for an afternoon jeep safari in search of Sri Lankan leopards, wild elephants, sloth bears, and crocodiles. The late afternoon light in Yala is spectacular for photography.
Day 13Yala to Sinharaja — Curd & Night Trail
A morning curd-making experience at a local dairy farm, followed by a traditional farmers' brunch and a lesson in Palmyrah leaf weaving from a village craftsperson. Transfer to Sinharaja Rainforest and check in to your jungle lodge. After dinner, join a night trail through the forest with a naturalist — the nocturnal soundscape of frogs, insects, and owls is extraordinary.
Day 14Sinharaja Rainforest Trek & Bentota
Morning trek through the main nature trail in Sinharaja — Sri Lanka's last primary rainforest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Follow mixed-species bird flocks through the forest understorey and look for endemic reptiles, amphibians, and the giant squirrel in the forest canopy. Transfer to the beach resort in Bentota for a final evening of relaxation on the Indian Ocean shore.
Day 15Departure from Colombo
Final morning on the beach before your transfer north along the Southern Expressway to Bandaranaike International Airport — 14 days of ecological Sri Lanka, lived at the rhythm of nature.
